Abbey’s Story
For anyone who knew Abbey, she was the epitome of a true friend and a cherished family member. She was a woman of grace, determination, and an incredible ability to get things done, always with her signature intricate and personal touch.
Abbey had a deep desire to live life to the fullest. She embraced every new and memorable opportunity, whether it was hiking mountains, surfing in Tofino, waking up early to watch the sunrise, or seeing it set over Kits Beach. She loved watching the stars from the Pinery dunes or hosting one of her signature dinner parties. When you were with Abbey, every day was a joy.
Throughout her life, Abbey's passion for the arts was a part of her everyday existence. Her impeccable talent led her to create stunning pieces of art from a young age, and this dedication propelled her into a successful career in architecture.
Even in her younger years, you would find Abbey in her art room, meticulously crafting pieces that were wise beyond her years. Her collection of clay figurines—each one a different holiday character—is still kept safe and sound today.
Her talent flourished throughout high school, as did her bond with the group now known as the "Burly Girls." She won numerous awards for her detailed pencil drawings and intricate sculptures. Abbey's creativity also extended to her wardrobe, where shopping trips would end with enough outfits to supply the entire school.
Her high school success earned her scholarships toward her Architecture degree at Carleton University. While there, she not only created phenomenal projects but also embraced life to the fullest with memorable nights out, parties, and pure joy at every Panda Game. Her hard work paid off when she was awarded scholarships to attend her dream school, for the Architecture Master Program at the University of British Columbia.
Abbey was made for BC, and BC was made for Abbey. Her remarkable journey so far from home made so many people proud. In BC, she found a new circle of friends who brought adventure and constant smiles. Through the challenges of securing her Master's degree, Abbey found so much more: a life of adventure, independence, lifelong friends, and endless Kits Beach sunsets. The future for Abbey was in BC.
Abbey’s legacy will live on through her art and her genuine kindness. It was her wish to ensure that those with a passion for the arts and a kind approach to life are given the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
